JR Motorsports Driver Jeremy McGrath's First Race This Weekend

Just in case you haven't heard, seven-time Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross Series and all-time winningest supercross racer, Jeremy McGrath has signed on with JR Motorsports as a developmental driver.

He is currently scheduled to run 10 late model races this season, and depending on how he does there will probably be opportunity for him to race Earnhardt Jr's nephew in the USAR Series, and just possibly in the Busch Series near the end of the year.

Jeremy has had some racing experience of the 4-wheeled variety. He signed on to do some off-road racing with BF Goodrich Tires back in 2005.

Jeremy's first race is scheduled for April 21 at Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, N.C.

"This is something I've always wanted to try, and I'm really grateful that Dale Jr. is giving me this opportunity to drive one of his race cars," said McGrath. "I've got a lot to learn when it comes to racing something with four wheels, but I'm confident I can pick it up pretty quick." I am also very excited about Monster Energy Drink's big involvement." - source: Motorcycle-usa.com

Dale Jr is happy with the addition of McGrath to his racing-fold, "I'm proud to have Jeremy here, and it's cool to see how excited he is about getting into one of these late models. I like his approach, his mentality, and the energy he brings to this shop. I know this isn't just some fleeting interest on his part. He is as serious about this as anyone I've ever been around." - source: Motorcycle-usa.com

McGrath is the second 2-wheeled racer to join the stock car ranks this year. Ricky Carmichael also signed on with Ginn Racing earlier this year to race late models with under the watchful eye of mentor Mark Martin. "Ginn Racing CEO and GM Jay Frye is very pleased with Ricky Carmichael's progress in Late Models.

"He'd doing phenomenally well," Frye said. "He's way ahead of where we thought he'd be at this point."

Carmichael will compete the next two weekends at New Smyrna." - source: Lee Spencer at Foxsports.com

Oddly enough, Carmichael is also sponsored by Monster Energy Drink.

I hope McGrath's debut is a little more successful than Carmichael's who experience a flat right tire on the 7th lap of his feature race back in March at Columbia Motorsports Park.

At this time I just want to express my heart-felt condolences to the victims and their families of the recent senseless shooting at Virgina Tech yesterday. I could not imagine what you are going through right now. No matter what your religion may be, I hope that your God is with you at this time.
