Dale Jr Set To Announce Sponsor and Number NextWeek

On Wed. Sept 19th to be exact. The announcement will take place in Dallas and Dale will be announcing what his primary sponsor and car number are for next year's Sprint Cup.

So what do you think his number and sponsor will be? David Poole tried to get the scoop on the number thing by checking recently filed trademarks made by Rick Hendrick and found that he had filed trademarks for the numbers 80, 81, 82, 85, 86, 87, 89, 08, and 38 - I also heard, but as of yet confirmed, that a trademark has been filed for the number 88 as well.

So I think the number selection has been narrowed down a bit, heh. In any event it appears that the new number will definitely have an 8 in it. My vote? 08, 80, 38, 88 in that order.

Sponsor? A lot of people are still saying Mountain Dew or AMP ( a Mtn Dew variant I believe). I even had some one email me weeks ago claiming they had 'inside' info that it is AMP - but they wouldn't give me any hint of who that source might be. I still think that Pepsi should be the primary sponsor while running special one race deals (with special paint jobs to get the merchandising sales) with other Pepsi products on the car like Mountain Dew.

Anyway, let me hear what you have to say. Let's keep the debate going at least until Monday.

This Dale Jr. fan casts his vote for #81, #88 and #28 in that order. All I can say is, finally the date has been set and this will be the final announcement in this long season and then I can't wait for 2008... go dale jr.

Mountain Dew car bearing the 81. That is my "prediction".

My prediction is #8...oops, I forgot, the bitch from hell won't give it up, well then let's go with 81. And Sponsor? How 'bout something military...Army's taken so let's see....I would like to see the 81 National Guard car. Think that would get recruiting going in full swing?

I think you have it right with the varied, Pepsi product mini-sponsorships. There are tons of merchandise promo possibilities with different paint schemes and such. Nobody sells swag like Junior. I said on Bench Racing today that I think it's the #88 with Amp and National Guard sponsorship. What do I know. I just want it to be over.

BTW - I tried to comment over at The Pit Stop yesterday and it wouldn't let me. FYI. It was (is) a nice post.

Just saw on the Charlotte.com that the new # is 88. Looks like pepsi is the sponser to.

Looking forward to next season already! Go dale!!

Charlie,

Thanks, although the National Guard thing isn't too shabby of an idea - he does have Navy on his Busch car after all. I'll look into the posting thing over at The Pit Stop, we've been getting aton of spam there and I wonder if that has something to do with it.

Take Care.
