The First 2008 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet Rolls Off The Production Line Today

I know, not quite NASCAR but this is still a historical automotive event none-the-less and I got invited to it too.

Yep, I got the invite to the Ford Racing celebration of the Job 1 completion of the first 2008 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet as it rolls off the production line on Thursday, December 18 and I can't go.

Only 50 of these things are being built and I have the chance to go see the first one and I can't go - man that sucks, but what can you do?

I'd also have the chance to talk with the following people;

Brian Wolfe – Director, Ford Racing Technology
Doug Hervey – Manager, North American Racing Operations
Jamie Allison – Manager, Ford Performance Group
Andy Slankard – Lead Engineer
Brent Hajek – Ford Racing customer receiving the first 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet

When I saw this list I immediately thought of several questions I could ask each individual on the list - oh well.

Here is a little backgrounder for you sent to me by Ford:

"In 1968, the first Mustang Cobra Jet was produced and won its inaugural drag racing event – Winternationals.

Now, 40 years later Ford Racing is launching the updated version of this performance classic.

The limited edition Mustang Cobra Jet, 50 units, sold out in two weeks to sportsman racers for National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) competition.

After months of anticipation, a prototype was unveiled at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturing Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas in October.

In the closing weeks of the 40th Anniversary of the Mustang Cobra Jet, the first of the new 2008 Mustang Cobra Jets will be finished and delivered to its new owner.

To continue the racing heritage, the 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet is already entered in the 2009 Winternationals at Ponoma."

If Ford sends me any related media (like pictures!) to this event I'll make sure I get it posted up here for you.
