He's Back

No I'm not talking about Jason Vorhees, I'm talking about Jeremy Mayfield.

Jeremy has had an up and down career in NASCAR's premier racing series and now he is back driving his own car with a full-time sponsorship in All Sport.

Yep, Jeremy now has his own race team and he is going Cup racing full-time this year while handling the driving duties as well. He is one of about 12 or 15 newly registered start-up teams that have NASCAR's approval to race this season, but he is the only one with a secure full-time sponsor.

Mayfield has purchased about 5 Toyotas from the now defunct Bill Davis Racing and will get his engines from Triad Racing Technologies who also sold him a hauler. Mayfield is currently using the old Stavola Brothers shop and has hired about 12 employees, which should expand to about 20, and they have started to make 2 more cars of their own.

Considering what has been happening to Jeremy these last few years things are looking up for him and I hope he can get into the top 35 of owner points and is able to stay there but I am left wondering.

Based on his somewhat turbulent past with his previous car owners over what he deemed as 'poor equipment' as the cause of his lack of performance on the track what is going to happen if he suffers from poor performance again?

Is he going to quit and ask to be released from his current contract in order to go to another team? Heh, could you imagine?

Maybe now that he has the dual-role of owner slash driver he'll be able to see just how hard it really is to build and maintain good equipment along with placing the right people in key places all for the sole purpose of keeping the driver happy so that he can produce the right results on the track for the team.

With the massive layoffs that have occurred among NASCAR teams at the end of last season, at least it's good news a new team is hiring.

Who knows, as a result of the availability of quality shop talent out there, Mayfield might be able to put together a competitive organization.

Wow...that is one ugly paint job...

I'd suspect one or two of these 'start up' teams should be able to wrangle a spot in the top 35 after Bristol if they can get into Daytona...cuz the fields in Cali and Vegas probably wont leave too many cars on the outside looking in.

I disagree. I think the paint scheme is awesome ! The car looks hot & menacing. Even though I don't like Jeremy. I still can't get those annoying commercials out of my head !!! Oh Jeeerrreeemmmyyyy......
