NASCAR Nationwide Series: Scotts Turf Builder 300

Scott Wimmer came to Bristol Motor Speedway with an impressive record of one pole, three top-fives and six top-10s in 11 starts at the high-banked oval.

And, when all 300 laps of the Scotts Turf Builder 300 were completed, he earned a respectable finish of 22nd place after starting 30th. In addition to a boost in the points standings, it was also a great debut for Key Motorsports newest partner in StopRepairBills.com on their Chevrolet.

Right from the start, Wimmer battled a tight condition exiting turns 2 and 4 because he had to use too much braking power going into 1 and 3. This resulted in tough handling conditions for much of the early going. Even after moving up five positions in the first five laps, the Bristol veteran couldn’t keep pace with the leaders.

After going down a lap on the 67th circuit, Wimmer would fall back to his 30th-place starting position. But, through adjustments by crew chief Gary Showalter and crew he was able to get a better handle on the car.

Wimmer raced his way back up to the top-25 utilizing hard driving, patience and not getting caught up in several multi-car wrecks. From there, Wimmer was able to bring the No. 40 StopRepairBills.com Chevrolet across the finish line in 22nd place.   

Scott Wimmer, driver: “It wasn’t a bad day; we had some problems in practice yesterday that we didn’t figure out until last night. We made some gains during the race that really helped us and made our car better. We did a lot of things to it during the race and made some much-needed gains.

“We were able to stay out of trouble out there, bring the car home in one piece and that’s pretty good for Bristol. We could have torn the car up and finished much further back than we did, but we did okay with how we finished. Moving up five positions to 29th in points is great for this team and right where we need to be moving forward.

“I’m happy with it and I hope the folks here from StopRepairBills.com today enjoyed the race. I wish we could’ve had a better finish for them, but the good news is we have more races to show them what this Key Motorsports team can produce.”
