I thought I'd put this up so that people would have a place to go and speak about whatever is on their minds while watching The Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona. I myself won't be here the whole time, nor do I expect anyone else to be either, but I will be dropping in from time to time over the next 30 hours to check up on everyone and post a comment or two while I'm here.
I hope to see some of you in the comment area - talk with you later!

Soo ...
you made the jump to the comment section, good for you! Here is the first item of conversation:
What do you think made the Rolex 24 Hour Race at Daytona more mainstream over the last decade?
Personally I think it was Dale Earnhardt’s participation in it back in 2001. His presence brought people to their TVs in droves to watch who probably wouldn’t have watched in the first place and they’ve been hooked ever since.
I can honestly say I’m one of them.

Agreed. After Dale came a whole bunch of other well-known NASCAR drivers, too. I hope it can go off. I check in and out, but I’m always interested in finding out who wins.
The season’s gonna start soon!!!!

re 24 Hour Race more mainstream
I think what has increased the exposure is the numbers of media outlets that need content and the fact that the Rolex is relatively inexpensive to produce , so it is used as filler between NASCAR seasons. I do not think it would stand independently and it is the rare NASCAR neanderthal that can understand sports car racing.

NASCAR Neanderthal? Well ...
I’ll get to that in a sec, but first;
By inexpensive you’re not talking from a team owner’s perspecive are you? Because I think you’ll find a lot of people in disagreement with you. And as far as filler between seasons then the powers that be should be running this race 3 weeks earlier.
Unfortunately you might be right to some degree about a fan of NASCAR not understanding sports car racing, but those are the fans that only go to the races to watch the crashes anyway. A person who is a true motorsports fan will appreciate all forms of car racing, including NASCAR and sports car racing, and look upon school bus train races with distaste … well then again it is pretty fun to watch – I wonder if they would do train races with the DPs?

Watchin' the Irwindale race right now, but I'm falling asleep
will post about it later today after I watch the DVR recording – must get some sleep. I hope Andrew Ranger gets a top 10!

Things are looking good for the leader ...
but all it takes is one mistake, or a mistake by someone else to get that much needed caution for Pruett to catch up!
I’m hoping for a caution!
