Indy v. NASCAR
via a.espncdn.com
As I was watching the Indycar race at Texas tonight, I thought of a few things that maybe haven't been brought up in a while.
Look, I fully realize that the Indy/Stock rivalry(ha) has been going on for quite some time... but I was curious if anybody out there had some new takes.
Does anybody else out there tune in somewhat consistently to Indy races?
I'll be honest.... other than live the local track here, I don't watch much other than Sprint, Nationwide, Truck, and Indy. No F1/Whelen/ARCA/etc, for me.
What are your thoughts on the current state of Indycar racing? Perhaps my title was somewhat misleading, because I don't care to put the two organizations against each other, so much as I want to look at the differences in both.
I've enjoyed the Indycar races this year. I don't always set aside time to sit down and watch them, but I typically do DVR them... and have been rather pleased thus far.
I'd like to get some opinions on what you like/don't like about the Indycar Series... and comparing it to NASCAR would likely make for some interesting chatter.
The different tires, the push to pass button, and a few other things have attempted to make it a little more competitive as of late. Even Versus' exceptional coverage is appealing to me. I think it's done rather well.
Indy certainly doesn't have the appeal to me that stock car racing does, but I don't dislike it.
Any thoughts on the current state of Indy in 2010?
I'd be interested to hear the opinions of other NASCAR fans like me out there.

The only Indy race that I ever have any interest in is the one that gives the series its name, the Indy 500. Other than that, don’t know, haven’t ever had much interest, aside from going to the race (or maybe is was time trials) when they had a race at the meadowlands 20 years ago or so.
Go Jets
Go Devils
The problem facing Indy is that most people didn’t get over the split from Cart. In fact, most teams didn’t either, as Cart folded, so did many teams. Also, you know that every week you will see 43 guys race it out in Cup. In Indy? Only the Indy 500 has a full 33 car field. There are only 23 full times teams. Which means that some races only have about 24-30 cars in it. Plus, teammates are not really teammates in IZOD. We have all heard the stories of an owner telling another driver to move outta the way and let his “teammate” win. That doesn’t happen in Nascar. Or we don’t hear about it.
Indy Car is getting better
Troy J, you must be thinking of F1, they take team orders to let their teammate win. That doesnt happen in Indy Car. Look at what Indy is doing for the future, new chasses and multiple engine suppliers, turbo charged. They are going back to the way CART was. Once Indy Car got rid of Tony George things started getting better.
live and die blue and orange
It happened a bit in indy too. Not to much anymore. But you hear about the guys who come over from Indy, Hornish, Montoya, those guys have said that the atmosphere in NASCAR is so much friendlier. Montoya was surprised how much teammates help eachother over here. Instead of in Indy were it’s a little more every man or woman for themselves. You don’t really hear about teammates mentoring eachother. Indy is still exciting to watch, but you do feel it is different from watching Nascar.
