The Hoosier Showdown
Jeff Gordon is one of the greatest drivers to ever strap into a race car. A California native who calls Indiana home, his resume holds up well against any in the modern era of American motorsport. He has triumphed on his adopted home track, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, four times, a record for the track's oval layout which he shares with racing immortals AJ Foyt, Al Unser, and Rick Mears.
Tony Stewart is perhaps the greatest born and bred Hoosier racer ever. Displaying an old school versatility that was the trademark of his hero Foyt, the native of small town Indiana has raced and won in a wide range of cars, scoring eleven driving titles over sanctioning bodies such as USAC, the Indy Racing League, and NASCAR. He got his long-awaited first win at Indianapolis in 2005 and backed it up with another victory in 2007.
These two titans are winless on the 2010 season entering Sunday's running of the Brickyard 400. What could be better than a battle for victory on Indy's hallowed 2.5-mile surface between the greatest living drivers to claim the state of Indiana as home?
The Transplant vs The Natural.
It would be a duel for the ages to be talked about for all time, regardless of the victor.

I'm just excited about the boys having decent tires nowadays
Remember that travesty at the Brickyard a couple years back?
The Worst Brickyard ever
Not only was it a travesty, it was a downright outrage!
Last year was much improved, aside from the 48 winning it, again. Montoya completely screwed himself tho…

My Problem with the Rainbow Warrior
I respect Gordon as a driver, I really do. But my problem with the guy is he’s seemingly from everywhere, depending on where he’s racing. I take real offense, for some reason, when he’s announced, or even says, he’s from Indiana. He is not a Hoosier, not in the least. I understand he spent his formative years there, but he’s a California kid, plain and simple. And, to add insult to injury, I heard him introduce himself from North Carolina a few weeks ago. Why can’t he be from one place? Why must he, his handlers, or NASCAR, alwasy try to squeeze this guy into whatever demographic they feel is needed? I hate that kind of stuff.
On a side note, I’M GOIN TO THE BRICKYARD THIS WEEKEND!!!! WHOOOHOOOO!!!!!
And I’m hoping Smoke will kiss the Bricks. I was there last tiime he did it in the 20.
GO TONY!!!! A real freakin’ Hoosier…

Oh...
Also, its Tony’s home track, not Gordon’s.

Speaking of Foyt
I’d love to read a piece about Foyt on the site. I have no doubt one of you guys (or girls) would be able to pound out a serious story about the man.
Also, GO TONY!!! A real freakin Hoosier!

I thought of doing one but I’ve done two stories that were a little too much about me and not enough about the topics (Kenny Irwin and Davey Allison, respectively), it would have been about the triangle of Foyt being Stewart’s hero as a child, then Foyt being my hero, now Stewart being my hero, but that’s better saved for a personal blog than a proffessional one.
Thanks for the comments, y’all. Hope we have a great race this weekend and that Puts on bias cap, my red #14 ballcap Smoke is kissing the bricks when its over.

By the way, Rocky, I called it Jeff’s “adopted home track” because he adopted Indiana as his home state.
Of course, like you said, when he would win in Sonoma, he would act like that was his home win, so I agree. That can be a little irritating.
