Open Race Thread: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series WinStar World Casino 350k | Texas Motor Speedway
You know, I'm liking this battle for the points. So much so that I'm going to DVR this race as my son's hockey game starts about the same time as the green flag is going to fly and I'll watch it when I get home. Don't expect to see me in the comment section either - at least not until I've watched the race.
So who is going to win? Tough call. If you want a safe bet then go with either Harvick or Busch, but if you must pick a winner out of the Truck regulars than I'd pick any one of the drivers in the top three or four in points, with a nod going to Buesher and Dillon - if for no other reason than they qualified strong (P1 and P2 respectively) and are way out of the pack where a lot can happen.
Starting line-up is after the jump, see you on the other side.

Hornaday should have given Busch some room there.
He’s racing for a championship and wants to take it 3 wide on lap 15??

agree, but
I think busch tried to pinch him behind the slower truck and hornaday had too much momentum to not hit the slower truck – this of course based on the reply I watched as my dvr didn’t record the race for me. But what busch did after is inexcusable, but more on that later.

You are unbelievable...
If Kyle were in contention for a championship, you would expect him to drive in that manner; he drives that way all the time, for that matter – early in races, too. Yet when someone else drives in that same manner, you expect them to move over for your golden boy – even when he has nothing to gain, other than ruining someone else’s opportunity?
And, as of this morning, NASCAR has finally seen enough of Kyle tearing up other people’s equipment to determine that he is a menace to racing society, and will not even let him run in tomorrow’s Sprint Cup race. FANTASTIC. Not only does he feel so entitled that he wrecks million-dollar machines when things don’t go his way, but he is an asshole afterward, to boot. This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving prick.
I hope that Kevin follows through with what he said last night, and whips Kyle when his probation is over, in 3 weeks.

Dude, you are out of line on this.
Kyle is not my golden boy, and if you are a regular here you would know that by now. Did I say anywhere what Kyle did was right? No. All I said is I think he tried to pinch Hornaday behind a slow truck – I did not justify his actions at all. In fact, I agree with you that he races like that all the time. Do I like that he does drive like that all the time? No, I believe in giving and taking, but since everyone else knows he drives like that all of the time then what the hell is Hornaday doing trying to get under him with a slow truck in front of him? Also, I’m very happy that NASCAR parked him for the weekend – its about time they did something like that, I just fail to understand why they haven’t done it to other drivers who have done similar things over the last two seasons – perhaps if they had then Kyle wouldn’t have done what he did last night.
Do me a favor, try attacking the ideas presented here next time and not the person who writes them. This is an open forum for discussion, not snarking.

That reply was not to you, 4ever3...
It was to Hatfield; Kyle is his driver, and I have read his words that justify Kyle doing the very things that he chastised Hornaday for. I wasn’t even saying that I agree with Hornaday’s methods last night, just that Kyle drives that same way, all the time, and that there is no difference.
We’re on the same page, man. Also, if you’ll see, my reply is not indented under yours; it was in direct response to Hatfield. And many apologies if you object to my tone; that was not even directed at Hatfield either, but rather that Kyle Busch’s presence alone in this sport, burns me up.
All is well – sorry for the confusion!

You should thank Kyle for getting the forgotten truck series some national attention.

On that...
…we can definitely agree. :)
by Dixie's Football Pride on Nov 5, 2011 3:02 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
You mean the series that coming into this race had four people within 14 points of the lead?
Dillon, Beuscher, Sauter, and Hornaday are the ones who are bringing the Truck series to national attention. People like Harvick and Busch are the ones ruining it.

Yeah, Steve Buescher is all over Sportscenter...
@RealNolenBailey
by Hatfield on Nov 5, 2011 4:06 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
I don't watch a lot of Sportscenter, so I wouldn't know
But Sportscenter has way too much to cover to always go in depth into the “lower league” races, most of the time simply posting the top 3 with short highlights, the same they do with any “lower leagues” in sports, if they even cover it at all. If you were to watch NASCAR related shows, Buescher is often talked about, especially regarding his missed Phoenix race and where he would be if he had qualified. I can see your point as to the attention received, but this kind of attention is bad attention to the series and to the sport, and you aren’t going to bring in any more fans with that kind of display of stupidity. Instead, the ignorant people of the world will begin touting their “NASCAR is full of rednecks” philosophy again, which will only drive future fans away.
And by the way, if you’re going to make a point, at least get the driver’s name right. Otherwise you just sound ignorant yourself, and no one will take you seriously.

Correct me if I'm wrong
But did you not defend Kevin Harvick punching someone through a car window earlier this year?
Also, I’m fairly certain you knew who I was referring to above. No need to be petty. It was anything but an egregious error.
@RealNolenBailey
by Hatfield on Nov 5, 2011 5:28 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Actually, I didn't defend Harvick
I commented on several posts that punches are NOT acceptable, and referenced Jimmy Spencer. I didn’t support either driver in that case, calling both cowards and endangering other people due to their actions.
And I apologize for the latter comment. I didn’t mean it to be mean, although reading it now I do see it came off that way. I know you are a true fan of the sport, which is why I don’t want you to be lumped into the “ignorant” people part of my post. It was meant to be helpful, not hurtful. Again I apologize, and will retract that statement. And I definitely knew who you were talking about, even if Sportscenter wouldn’t! :D

They definitely don't.
I appreciate your post. And for the record, all I could do was shake my head in disappointment at Kyle’s actions last night.
It was ‘Old Kyle’ and I hated to see him revert back to that out of frustration. Probably with himself after another poor Chase performance.

humble pie tastes good ...
I’ve eaten crow on this site too. I think the pie is a little better to eat though. I too am sorry for the confusion, sometimes I’m quick to defend the integrity of this blog and its followers, which I’m glad you’re one of.

As far as Busch's remaining penalties, as there should probably be some....
I think he should not be allowed to run Homestead in the Trucks. He doesn’t need to be there, and allowing him to run will cause more problems than it’s worth. Other than that, I would say the penalties given this week are consistent with previous penalties, and there shouldn’t be any other penalties outside of the Truck series (other than a cross-divisional probation). Points and money may be penalized in Trucks, but I’m happy with the stance NASCAR has taken here, as long as Busch doesn’t run Homestead in Trucks.
I think Busch should pay for all the damages to Hornady's truck too

Just read that there are sources saying Gibbs might take some action
Gibbs isn’t someone you mess with when it comes to morals. A very religious person who is not afraid to show his beliefs, what Busch did goes very much against everything Gibbs values. The talk is that Gibbs will sit him down for the rest of the season to think about things. Interestingly, this does not mean that he will be sitting out of the last Truck race, since Busch obviously own his own truck. That’s why NASCAR needs to sit him out of the Homestead Truck race in my opinion. I really do think Kurt Busch benefited greatly from Roush parking him for those two races at the end of the 2005 season. I truly hope Kyle will learn from this as well.
