Ricky's Articles

Spring is upon us...

Hello Friends and Fans!

I realize it has been a while, and I apologize for not keeping you updated better lately...   We have been busy here at Ricky Byers Racing, still trying to rustle up our primary sponsorship to get out on the track and make a difference by RACING FOR A CURE!

Ricky Byers Racing is very grateful to the associate sponsors who have already come alongside us in our endeavor to take a stand against cancer, including a new brand with which we are currently discussing partnership.  Watch for a possible announcement about this exciting news soon!

Know that we have not given up, fans!  Far from it!  We have an entire team of dedicated folks hard at work trying to cover all aspects of achieving the goal to get me out there on the track to do what I know best...   racing!

It does get frustrating, and I do have to fight being discouraged a lot of the time.  I don't understand why it is so hard for some corporation to see what a win-win deal this is.  A proven driver, in the good equipment of well-respected, long-time car owner Andy Belmont - who has been nothing short of spectacular in his gracious support of our attempts to secure funding for his ride - should be a no-brainer.  With the media draw of my story alone, now that they will look for "real" stories, not to mention all the promotional activities we have planned in our sponsors' names; why, the brand recognition available through Racing for a Cure with Ricky Byers alone is a Victory Lane of its own.  There is a company out there waiting for just this opportunity to showcase their brand...   and we will find them.

In the meantime we have another exciting promotion we want to share with fans right now.  Prilosec OTC currently has a program to vote for your favorite potential Prilosec OTC spokesperson!  So all you Ricky Byers fans out there need to go to http://www.officialsponsor.com/  and cast your vote!  Just enter ‘Ricky Byers' in the search window, and then click on "Cancer Survivor Race Car Driver."  Vote and then leave a comment to let them know how much you believe we deserve to win and be awarded the sponsorship!  Thanks, fans!! You can go back each day and vote!  Every little bit helps!

Another endeavor we are currently involved with is a diecast replica of the Daytona test car.  Friend Chip Perkins created a remarkable 1/24 scale duplicate of the Corrie Stott car we ran as fast as 8th quick at the test in December '09.  Action Diecast would be my choice if I were to have them made in quantity, and I would surely like to use them for promotions toward Racing for a Cure...  but at 1,000 minimum to order, I'm afraid that unless I get some more positive feedback, I might have to wait a little while on this project.  People seemed to balk at spending the money for charity when I brought it up on my facebook page.  Well, when we bring a primary sponsor on board, everything will be different and we can move forward with these items unencumbered.

Well, for now, I want thank you all for your faithful support, your prayers, and your loyal friendship on this journey.  You are all very much appreciated.

Check out the video I have posted below from a local news station interview last winter, and don't forget to go vote at the Prilosec OTC page!

Till next time, this is Ricky Byers Racing, wishing you all good health and God speed!

Getting ready for Daytona

OK race fans we here at NASCAR Ranting and Raving are hard at work trying to get some things done in the sponsorship portion of The Ricky Byers Racing for A Cure season.

Ricky_byers_3_medium

We all are truly hoping to have some great news coming this weekend or the first of next week about a new sponsor for the February 6, 2010 race at Daytona International Speedway.

We are hoping to bring a sponsor on board and make an offical annoucement that we are going to Daytona to take our sponsors to the winners circle.

We tested at Daytona in December and were 8th fastest in Saturday morning practice out of 63 different drivers. We finished the weekend 19th overall and were never involved in the draft. We know if we would have been in the draft we would have definitely been in the top 3.

We concentrated  more on single car runs to get the setup to go win the race in February.

So lets all hope we can get this sponsor on board and go win some races and raise some money for Cancer Research.

If everyone can tune in I will be on Fox  6 news Friday night at 5,6 and 10 pm. If you can't tune in we will have a link on my web site to the interview.

Hopefully Monday we will have a press conference about our new sponsor.

Thanks everyone for the support.

Looking for a Sponsor

Racing for a Cure – ARCA driver Ricky Byers to donate

all earnings; just needs a sponsor

Last evening, I had a very special privilege to talk with ARCA driver Ricky Byers.  Our conversation covered his vision of trying to help raise funding to help find the cure for cancer and all his ambitions he has set forth to make this vision a reality.  He put everything on the table and spoke with a very heavy heart.

Now it’s my job to share with you exactly what his vision involves.

Ricky Byers photo taken at Daytona International Speedway. Byers clocked 19th fastes overall.

Ricky Byers has raced all of his life.  But at the age of 33, his life would change forever.  He was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma.  Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common form of nonmelanoma skin cancer following Basal Cell Carcinoma.  It had spread into his throat leaving him to battle five years with Laryngeal (Throat) cancer.  This is the same form of cancer that claimed the life of Bobby Hamilton, Sr. back on January 7, 2007.  But Ricky wouldn’t give in and let the cancer win.  In his own right, Ricky turned out to be the winner.  Today, Ricky, now 39, is in total remission, 100% cancer free and loving and living life to it’s fullest.  You see, Ricky is currently the only two-time cancer survivor trying to accomplish the task of driving in the ARCA ReMax or the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, and ONLY for a good cause.

Ricky’s inspiration and focus had turned towards seven-time Tour De France winner, Lance Armstrong after his diagnosis. Ricky even participated in the Lance Armstrong Foundation Tour of Hope. In helping others, Ricky is there supporting others diagnosed with cancer and making sure they secured financial support, as well as treatment.  He used the tools and resources available through Lance’s web site, knowing he had a fighting chance to beat this ‘monster’.  Ricky is hoping that some day he will have the chance to meet Lance Armstrong.  In the meantime, he stays strong by helping the cause and bringing forward awareness to this dreadful disease.

Ricky’s goal for 2010 is to be a full time driver in the ARCA ReMax Series or even the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in order to raise money for cancer research. Plain and simple. He wants to share his dream and belief, that cancer can – and will be – a thing of the past. He hopes that his ‘Racing for a Cure’ will start at Daytona this coming February.  He completed a couple of days of testing at Daytona in mid-December and had the 19th fastest overall time.  He did have a fastest lap  that placed him 12th fastest at one point.

The sad part of this whole story, is that I see the lack of interest the media is portraying towards this cause.  At the same time Danica Patrick was testing her ARCA car at Daytona International Speedway, Ricky was there testing, but was never approached by the media about what he is trying to do.  I guess Danica is more important.

By the way, just a heads up to potential sponsors…..Ricky ran faster than Danica.

Currently, Ricky’s Racing for Cure has been sidelined due to non (monetary) sponsorship.

He has picked up some "sponsorships" but only yielding material items, not actual funding to get him out on the race track.  "Right now, I

Humor has found it's way in.

Humor has found it's way in.

have a championship car (the same car that Justin Lofton just won his 2009 ARCA Championship in) which was offered to me by Eddie Sharp Racing; we have excellent equipment from Eddie Belmont and Speedlox/Breakthrough Racing, my driver’s suit was donated by Hinchman Racing Uniforms, and my Hans Device was donated by defNder GTO… all we need now is the money," said Byers.  "Heck, even if someone gave us only $150,000, it’ll get us out on the track for one race (where I need to be) and I WILL win the race."

RBR is currently asking for $2.2 Million for sponsorship for the whole ARCA or NCWTS season, which compared to a normal NASCAR Sprint Cup race team (asking price for sponsorship usually runs between $15 -$20 Million for a season) – $2.2 Million should be easy to come by.  "Someone or some company is out there somewhere that would very simply agree that this is for a good cause and hopefully will come forward,"  Ricky said.  I asked him what that $2.2 Million would cover and he answered that it would be just enough to get the job done….it would allow him to race, have a show car to aide the fundraising and cancer awareness at the tracks, hauler and car wraps and travel expenses.  That’s it.

So what does the $2.2 Million get someone? It will get someone their logo on the hood and be a part of  Racing for a Cure. And once a sponsorship has been locked in, it will include – but will not be limited to – the following:

• Weekly TV promotions to highlight donations (including sponsor)
• (Sponsored) Show Car to appear at every venue Ricky Byers Racing is attending
• Merchandise
T-Shirts sold at reduced prices with all proceeds being donated to cancer research (hoping to have materials donated)
• Special Paint Scheme
"Fan Car"  (Race fans can donate money and have names on the car)
• Free Cancer Screenings at every track that Ricky Byers Racing is attending

Ricky mentioned this is pretty much a no-brainer, and I totally agree with him.  A sponsor comes forward, Ricky races, and all the money he earns will be donated to cancer research facilities with one stipulation: 100% of the funds must go into the research itself and not payrolls.  He’s been trying to get a hold of the Victory Junction Gang Camp and would like to help them as well, but no phone calls have been returned to Ricky as of yet…. and, unfortunately, it’s been a while.  He’s also in the process of trying to reach Walt Disney World (Corporate) to see if they would be interested in supporting Racing for a Cure since Walt Disney’s nephew, Roy Disney, Jr. just recently passed from stomach cancer.  "They certainly got enough of my money over the years," Byers said.

Due to his Laryngeal cancer, Ricky has lost a vocal chord and has a very deep-graspy voice.   "Sometimes people don’t call me back because it’s so hard to understand me," said Ricky.  Well, I gotta tell you, I didn’t have a hard time understanding him during our conversation, so please don’t use that as an excuse not to call or to talk to Ricky!!!

Currently, Ricky is on-air with a regular syndicated radio and internet talk shows (Burning Rubber Radio) trying to bring awareness to Ricky Byers Racing and his Racing for a Cure.  He has a Ricky Byers Fan Page on Facebook.  He also writes his own blog on a site named NASCAR Ranting & Raving.  You could find his blog under "Ricky’s Articles."  Here you can follow Ricky on his journey of trying to make his vision come through fruition.

For anyone who is interested in monetary sponsorships or would like further information, please contact Ricky Byers directly @ 1-205-229-0480 or email him at racingfouracure@aol.com.

Racing for a Cure

Ok everyone, I am sorry I haven't been on lately. I have been working over 18 hours a day on the sponsor hunt.    But I am here now and have a few things to post. I want to start of by saying thank you to 4 ever 3 you are one awesome individual. All of the things you have done to help me is amazing and I will never be able to thank you enough.

I want to update everyone on the things we are working on for our Race for a Cure in 2010.  We are in talks with the Susan G Komen Foundation and Children's Cancer Research Fund  to partner with us and raise money for cancer research. We have put together a few programs to raise over 10 Million dollars for cancer research. We are looking for sponsors to get us on the track next year so we can make it happen. I made the decision also that I am going to donate all of my winning to cancer research. We are going to be doing weekly radio and television update about our cause and our donations.

I also want to let everyone know we have partnered with Hinchman Race Wear. Hinchman is going to supply us with all of our custom uniforms for 2010. Hinchman is a great company and have been making uniforms for over 80 years. You can visit there web-site at www.hinchmanracewear.com. Hicnhman is the inavator of race uniforms.

We also have speedlox coming on board to help us in our cause of Racing for a Cure. Speedlox is manufactured by Phenix Industries. Speedlox won the New Product of the Year Award for performance Racing Category  at Sema.
Speedlox is the next generation in race plumbing and safety. You can visit there web-site at www.speedlox.com.

We will continue hunting for a primary sponsor to get us on  the track in 2010 so we can do everything possible to help find a cure for cancer. We will be promoting our sponsors and our cause ever chance we can. We have put things in place that have never been offered by a race team to help our sponsors with media attention and raise awareness and funds for cancer.

If anyone is interested feel free to contact us at anytime.

Racing for a Cure Update

Hello everybody at Ranting and Raving land, just want to apologize for not having any new articles lately.  We have been very busy with Radio interviews and the sponsor search.

On the good side we have partnered with Caring for Carcinoid Foundation www.caringforcarcinoidfoundation.org .

This is a great orginazation that spends 100% of the donations they receive on cancer research. We are going to do our best to help them in any way we can to help find a cure for cancer.

If you didn't know  about my latest radio interviews you can hear the archives on Burning Rubber Radio www.burningrubberradio.com and at On Pit Row www.onpitrow.com

We are going today to Raleigh North Carolina to record a show with Burning Rubber Radio to be played on Monday night and on Saturday we will be at the Wake County Speedway in Raleigh doing the pre race show for the U-Car Clash Championship. We are going to be holding raffles for some great prizes and the donations will go to the Shriners Hospital and Racing for a Cure.

Also I am having my web-site www.rickybyersracing.com updated and anyone that has had cancer or knows someone affected by cancer can go on the site and donate money in their name and all of the donations will go to cancer research

Another idea we have is having a car just for cancer survivors and people affected by cancer . We are accepting donations and trying to put  together  a package were we can have their names put on the car.

The idea we have is to get people to donate 50.00 and the name will be displayed on the  Racing for a Cure car.

We think $50.00 is a great price to honor someone you know or love and help get the awareness and the funds to help find a cure for cancer.

If anyone is interested you can go to my web-site www.rickybyersracing.com and make a donation all funds will go to cancer research.

We are still in a full sponsor hunt so anyone interested please feel free to contact us at anytime.

Racing for a Cure

Why I’m Racing For a Cure

This week has been very humbling for me. I have spent the last 2 weeks at a hospital watching someone that I care deeply about, holding onto life with everything in her. She refused to give up on a disease that has been a part of her life for 16 years. On September 30th 2009 at the very young age of 45, she won the battle of her life. She went home to be with Jesus Christ.

Ricky Byers Racing - Story of a True Cancer Survivor ...

Rickybyersheader_medium

Hi, I'm Ricky Byers and I am a 2 time cancer survivor.  I wake up every morning with a true sense of accomplishment.  I just love life.  Knowing that you can beat cancer is truly a great feeling.

At the age of 33, I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Little did I know that I was about to fight the biggest fight of my life to date. During my 5 year fight against Laryngeal (Throat) cancer, my biggest inspiration came from the 7 time Tour De France winner, Lance Armstrong.
